National Events - What CAN we do about them?
This morning my wife brought home a video from a Portland Oregon friend entitled "The Fall of our Empire," by some whacko group whipping up hysteria, mostly around conspiracies about our country circling the drain.
With a cocktail of right wing fanatacism, a little of Hitler-like repeat-the-lie-until-they-buy-it kinda stuff, and a lot of untruths ( they tend to attract a lot of lower middle class folks ), hysteria can run rampant in the streets of our country.
Remember the old newsreels of pre-WWII when the crowds chased the Jews and beat them senseless? It only happened when things were bad, like now. Remember when our economy was good, lotsa money around, high salaries, people were issuing statements like, " if you can't make money owning hotels, you shouldn't be in business"?
No rioting in the streets back then. No conspiracy theorists in those days. Who the hell was Lou whats his name on CNN?? NOW we got a problem, now we have nutballs on TV calling for this revolution, that group screaming to storm the gates.
There is a line in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar that goes like this: Caesar and Mark Antony are walking along the Senate building and they spot the senators all huddling and whispering, and Antony says to Caesar, ' beware yon Cassius, he is lean and hungry, and he thinks too much and such men are dangerous."
Solid advice in times like this.
