Military Cuts - Air Force
They just announced the military cuts and the Air Force is to lose ALL it's A-10 fighters, every one of them. I live under the approach of Davis Monthan Air Force Base. An A-10 fighter wing is stationed here, almost all air traffic is stationed here.
Sometimes, the Warthogs are so low over my house, I can count the rivets in the wings.
I know some of the pilots, great guys. Some times the approaches are so low, they set off car alarms in my neighborhood. I talked to the squadron commander casually one day, he said, laughingly, they failed " to keep the proper glide slope" on approach.
He's right, they don't, but after we talked, somehow, that stopped. Nice guy.
Now, the Sec'y of Defense, Chuck Hagel, the former Squad Sergeant US Army, has proposed the A-10 retirement, I will be concerned about a few things: our weakness at DM air base. What now, the joblessness here in Tucson as a result? Or, will there be another squadron of fighters to take their place. The loss, if there is no replacement, will be devastating to Tucson's economy. The Democratically controlled city government has run up sizable deficits and we are now 5th poorest community in America!!
Knowing how Europe, and the US citizenry feel about Obama (13% approval rating) I assume the base will be passed over. Everyone interview just today, feels that we are now in a vulnerable position for defense.
What is Obama's plan? What is his " agenda"?
