Dr. House
It appears the champagne days of Dr. Greg House may be waning during this writing, but no matter, I love the show. it took me a long time to figure out why - the psychology of it all.
There was an interview of a department head of diagnostics motivated with the public's infatuation of the "House phenomenon" and that doctor said,
" I am not a sociopath nor a drug user, except maybe caffeine," he commented.
That got me to thinking.
House is a sociopath on a minor scale, he really doesn't care much for other peoples' feelings, you see it regularly on his stories, he is bruising and brutal and times, I ' ve wanted to throw things at the TV. And, despite his persistence in breaking the rules, while dependent on drugs, he forges ahead because he feels he is right. His co-dependent friend, Dr. Wilson once said " he's just lucky," and maybe he is. Yet, a Readers Digest poll at the a few years back commented that among the public's choice of ALL doctors available to have them treat themselves in a dire emergency, the American Public overwhelming chose Dr. House as the physician they would most want to have bedside. Why? He stops at NOTHING to find a cure.
My point is, he is often wrong, and that's what I have grown to accept about House, the show, and most doctors in general.
Doctors can be, and are, often wrong. House serves a good purpose to show us that. Docs teach us, that we MUST get second opinions. They call wrong shots, and sometimes kill their patients, I know this from first hand experience, and if push comes to being shoved over a cliff, many others will admit this at three o'clock in the morning, as well.
I have heard doctors admit to ME that doctors make mistakes. That was enough for me, to make sure I ask a lot of questions when I am in the presence of white coats AND I double check thosed answers with other doctors.
Guess what? The answers, and the test results, are often contradictory.
