Too soon old, too late smart....Pennsylvania Dutch

Pondering this morning on past mistakes, reminded me of an ancient joke: a man dies meets his maker and He says, " here is a piece of chalk, here is a ladder. For ever sin you remember, mark one rung, climb up the rung, ascend into Heaven."
    The man thinks for a very long time, finally makes a mark, steps up, thinks, makes another mark, pretty much moves along. Next thing he knows, he is clicking away, finds himself way up in the clouds.
    After a while, he bumps into someone on the way down. It is his minister, a man he had thought was truly a holy man of God.
    "Reverend! What are you doing here ?" he exclaims
