The Case of Martin and Zimmerman: Ready, Fire, Aim
A week or so ago, this tragedy hit the television news media and nothing has made sense, since.
There are what? 300 million people in America now, and I'll wager 325 million differing opinions, theories, conspiracies, lies, distortions, schemes, raging acrimonious and troubling cries for "justice" and so far, as of this writing, not even one arrest.
The Sanford Police, moving slowly, gathering evidence, have not yet made an arrest. No one doubts who fired the fatal shot, I believe Mr. Zimmerman already admitted it, claiming self-defense, as is his right, so far.
In little over a week, the American media, radio, television "news" and talk shows - even a few yahoos in the Congress, have conducted witch hunts and mock-trials in the public forum making a sham of our justice system.
The public exposure by way of television news has got to stop. This electronic "lynching" and inflaming public passions are not got for our system
of Jurisprudence here in America. Some of the media pronouncements in the last two weeks have been astounding in their hyperbole, absolute leap of faith, leaps of absurdity, pure guess-work, all in the name of "news programs."
The black folks in America, those who have suffered the most from injustice i.e. public lynchings and outrage: i.e. mob violence, are now themselves beginning to advocate this same sort of behavior against the accused, in violation of that which they seek in the name of justice. Now is the time for their community to stand with the system, support jurisprudence and look to the legal system to do it's job, ever watchful of each step, not screaming Revolution. Showing faith and support. I believe in the rightness of our system. The truth WILL out.
Our system works. There is too much public exposure in the 21st century via a free press for any one Police system to "bury" any indiscriminate injustice, racial or not - to let this slip by the boards.
Our system of investigation, inspection of evidence, and the police arresting those lawfully involved in crime, brought before a jury of their piers, then tried and convicted, will eventually prove out our collective faith - for all of us.
Hollering "burn, baby, burn" will only turn back the clock and lay waste to the growth of relations between the cultures of the last 40 years and shove us all further into the gun culture that none of us want.
