"International Guns in Civilian Hands"
A think tank in Geneva issued a some time back that after exhaustive study, it concluded that most of the world's firearms - rifles, handguns, what have you - are in the hands of the civilian population. How about that?
The report said,
Three times more weapons are held by civilians than by all the worlds
police and armed forces, the Geneva based group reported.
The spread of the 875 million small arms in the world, the group found
that private citizens owned 650 million of them.
What concerns the group is the changing relationship between society and
their weapons, especially in big cities, cites the BBC.
In Africa, Asia and Latin America, the wealthy buy weapons for protection
behind gated communities, while outside, drug related crimes and gang war-
fare increase, they report.
