Eva Marie Saint, the gentler sex
I just watched an old movie with Gregory Peck and Eva Marie Saint, a western and remember fondly that woman, Ms Saint. In the film she had an indian child and Peck was an indian scout, the story was magnificent, and Saint as always was wonderful, beautiful, and last of the delicate, feminine, yet strong female characters of the old school Hollywood film stars.
Like Kate Hepburn, she held the screen, and she was magic to watch, alluring, beautiful, even covered with dirt and bruises, she brought out the "man" in most men, wanting to pick up the justice in the world to defend femininity. As it should be. As it was, as it should always be, N.O.W. and it cohorts, notwithstanding.
No apologies for obvious love, honor and defense of the distaff side of the world. I hate and detest films, men and culture that promotes and inculcates any form of violence towards women. REAL men don't even THINK of hurting women, they just walk away.
I digress. I only met her a couple of times early in my life in West Chester, Pennsylvania where she lived behind the teachers college with two children. My date (and future wife) and I would go to an ice cream shop just up the road from the girl's dorm on campus owned by my date's aunt Maude and her husband. Ms Saint would occasionally drop in with her two children, at I was told they were hers, while biking in the area.
She was charming, saying hello to everybody, chatting with whomever addressed her. Often, there weren't a lot of people in the shoppe, ice cream wasn't the big hit on campus, getting beer and drinks were. But, my 'date' and I frequesntly hit it, and now and then Eva Marie and kids did too.
Actresses frequently complain about fans that bug them on the street, complaining that " they think they KNOW me." I heard Julia Roberts bitching about that, once. I guess by that, we are to assume her real personality is diametrically opposed to the one on the screen....maybe?
From what little I saw of the person, Eva Marie Saint was every inch what i saw on the screen. God love her.
