On Line Rip-Offs, the scams are gaining on us!!
On old friend some thirty years ago, once told me that I was a Jiminy Cricket, saw the best in everybody...way too accepting, looked for the best in everybody.
At 70, maybe I still am, but the book is closing fast on that now, 'bout time one figures. Fifteen years ago, when I worked in Denver a good friend made almost the exact comment. All of this slowly wore me down, I drag on to the point.
The "Credit Score" companies on line, you know the ones, the guys that say, they will give you your credit scores from all three of the major biggies every month, either for a nominal one time "fee, or better yet for 'FREE.'
None of them are telling you the truth. Not one. How do I know? I've tried them all. First off, none of them are free. Nothing is, Milton Freedman was right, ain't no free lunch, somebody pays for it, in this case you do. All the others, you will pay. Fine print time, it may be only $14 or 15 or $29 for your score, but the real "SCORE" is your credit card will be billed that amount EACH AND EVERY month forever. And, near as I could tell, I could not find in the fine print, anywhere where it said, read the fine print, stupid, you're stuck with us for a year.
I begged, borrowed a lawyers advice, pleaded with my bank, my own credit card company, and surprise....no one backed me up except the lawyer. I got some hard steel language from the lawyer on how to beat them off, stopped the harassment, shook off the "credit report " agencies and learned a few lessons in the meantime.
I am on a very limited income. I am a veteran, as advertised 70, and from henceforth and forevermore, refuse to buy ANYTHING on-line. Nada, zip. Won't do it. Nothing with my credit card, anymore. I don't trust anyone, anymore, since my credit card company was less than helpful, I expected a lot more cooperation from Mastercard.
I vote with my money and my feet.
